Julia worked as an Occupational Therapist for people with learning disabilities in Sutton for many years. She became involved with Us in a Bus when their pilot project was carried out at Orchard Hill Hospital in the early 1990s, and very quickly realised that their aims and approach were very similar to those that she used in her work.
As well as being particularly interested in the postural management of people with complex needs, she is committed to enabling them to live fulfilling and happy lives.
She joined the Trustees in 2008 and brings her knowledge of local Service Users, her experience as an NHS manager and the diverse skills she developed while running The Orchard Hill Gateway Club; a registered charity, for over 20 years.
Julia served as Chair of the Trustees for 7 years, until July 2018, supporting the Chief Executive and Us in a Bus Team to develop their values, to strengthen the organisation and continue to deliver an excellent quality service to its users.
In July 2018 Julia received a volunteers award from the Mayor of Reigate & Banstead Council.
Now retired, and having moved down to the south coast, she enjoys exploring the local countryside in all its moods and seasons. She goes regularly to Aqua Aerobics and Pilates and is an enthusiastic member of a local choir, luckily no auditions required!
One of her 3 children lives in America and she looks forward to visiting different States as he moves around with his work. But, above all, her favourite thing is being Granny to her fantastic grandchildren with whom she spends as much time as possible. With their ages ranging from new born to 14, Julia is an expert at all things from Mr Tumble, football and den building to, Minecraft, One Direction and teenage fashion!
