Janet Gurney, our Director of Training, was representing Us in a Bus in Rome recently. The Chromosome 18 Europe charity dedicated a whole day of their conference to Intensive Interaction, to explore the difference it can make. Janet spoke to the conference in the morning and spent the afternoon with families, exploring through practical demonstration and discussion what Intensive Interaction might add in terms of communication and social inclusion.
People from all over Europe took part; the translators took care of the more formal communication – and intensive interaction took care of the rest, although there were moments when juggling with headphones, hand-held microphones, a couple of lively 4 year-olds and at least 3 languages seemed like a circus act! Janet says “I was bowled over by the warmth, positivity and openness I encountered at every level of the conference. I met some inspiring young people and their families – people were determined to have fun, as well as learn – and Rome was a great place to do that in.” If you want to know more visit www.chromosome18eur.org
